Wow, what a selection of images tonight! 62 images, all of an outstanding quality... so much so that the judge felt it necessary to give 5 commended awards and 5 highly commended awards on top of the 1st, 2nd and 3rd places!
3rd place goes to Helen with "zebras drinking"
2nd place goes to Peter with "Global Warming"
and taking the top-spot is Janet with "The Printer"
and finally, here's all the commended and highly-commended images together with the winners
Well, what a fantastic way to end the year, plenty of food and drink and plenty of banter when trying to earn a few extra points!
Even though it was a very close call, with 4 teams all coming within 3 points of each other, in the end their can be only one winner and it was Peter's team who edged ahead to take victory... well done to everyone who took part and well done to Richard and Andy for putting the quiz together... here's to next year!
While "steel wool" photos do look great, some people do tend to forget that you are literally playing with fire and after one photographer setting fire to the gorse bushes on Durdle Door recently, here's another case of someone burning down another landmark.
Be safe out there people, it's not worth risking your life for a picture!

Chasing the perfect image can lead you down the rabbit-hole... who knows where you might end up!

Another great evening for the club!
We managed to secure two models for the evening, the lovely Becky and fitness-instructor Josh. We had two lighting set up to maximise the shooting opportunities; one set up used continuous lighting which allowed multiple people to shoot at the same time, and one set up with Speedlight flashes... these need to be carefully configured and we had various camera types using the flashes, both with wired connection and being triggered by infra-red flash.
Becky has worked in modelling before so she knew the ropes and plenty of poses ready for us, Josh had no previous experience but took to the challenge like a duck to water!
Another competition with some excellent entries! Well done to James for taking first place with his tractor shot (and it's a sunrise too, something which seems to be frowned upon by judges!) and Richard took second place with his shot of an old music-box taken through a glass ball!
Another cracking evening at the club, Richard bought in his lighting set up to show us how he approaches lighting for shooting portraits and while he has some good equipment the same logic can still be applied when using simpler gear.
We used two lighting set up during the evening, starting with a high-key configuration using all four flashes, and then switching to a simpler two flash setup for low-key portraits.
In preparation for next weeks portraiture evening, this may give you some pointers about how to pose your models!
