LISKEARD
Liskeard is an ancient stannary and market town in South East Cornwall. It is twinned with Quimperle in France.
The town went through a period of economic prosperity during the 19th century boom in tin, copper, lead, and silver mining in South East Cornwall, it was a key centre in the industry.
Liskeard was one of the last towns in Cornwall to have a regular livestock market which unfortunately closed in 2017.
There are a number of notable buildings in Liskeard namely:
St Martin’s church is the second largest parish church in Cornwall dating from the 15th century
Stuart house was used by Charles I as a lodgings in 1644
The Guildhall with its clock tower built in 1859
Today, Liskeard means different things to different people. It could be home, a place of work or just a stop over for tourists coming into Cornwall.
Liskeard Camera Club
The Liskeard and District Camera Club was founded in 1960 by a group of enthusiastic photographers who joined together to form a club for like minded people. The aim of the club was to discuss, promote, and improve their skill level in a friendly atmosphere.
Today, some 60 years later the ethos of the founding members still lives on within the club who will always welcome new members, whatever their age, skill level, into a friendly environment where they can discuss, and develop their skills whether it be either traditional or digitally.
The club meets on a weekly basis every Tuesday night from September until May. In addition, in the ‘closed season’ club members meet on Tuesday evenings at various locations across Devon and Cornwall for informal photo walks.
We have a varied programme of activities ranging from guest speakers who cover a wide photographic spectrum, in-house workshop sessions for all levels, the club also engages in photo walk workshops across the Duchy under the guidance of a locally based professional photographer.
As a club we hold critique evenings within the club and hold a number of DPI and print competitions which are either judged in house or by guest judges.
The club also hosts or visits on alternate years Launceston Camera Club for a critique evening, as well as being involved annually in a ‘three way’ battle between ourselves, Saltash and Ivybridge Camera Clubs.
